Social project for youth focusing on healthy eating

18 October

In May 2019 of the year, the Auchan Foundation (AUCHAN) announced a competition for the best social project for young people in the area of healthy eating. We submitted the project "Creating a collection of recipes and practical tips from children who have overcome cancer" and 16 we successfully defended it online in October.

We had long dreamed of implementing such a project and sharing our experience with other volunteers and charitable organizations.

Since January 2011 of the year, volunteers from the Charitable Foundation "Little Bee" They come to the Oncohematology Department of the Regional Children's Clinical Hospital and prepare original culinary dishes with the children. Chefs (including head chefs) from various Odessa restaurants later joined our project.

Many parents often face the problem of their child's lack of appetite and reluctance to eat. And due to a weakened immune system, a child who has been hospitalized for a long time and undergoing chemotherapy can lose their appetite altogether. We help overcome this problem by involving children in the cooking process, which is always a fun and noisy process, and before their very eyes, a wonderful bunny made from eggs, a funny green crocodile made from cucumber, or an exotic beach with palm trees made from bananas and kiwis emerges. All these wonders are created by the hands of the child and their parents, which can't help but inspire excitement and the joy of eating the fruits of their labor. Moreover, some of the ingredients are eaten while the dish is being cooked, which is a real treat.
The book will include recipes from children who have overcome cancer; recipes from professional chefs will captivate both children and adults with fun sandwiches, vegetable, fruit, and berry dishes, hot dishes and side dishes, sweets, and desserts, complete with step-by-step instructions, illustrations, and photographs showing how to create a culinary masterpiece from simple ingredients.

The collection will include recommendations from nutritionists, hematologists, oncologists, pediatricians, cardiologists, neurosurgeons, and child psychologists (including some leading doctors from international clinics). Reviews from famous people (artists, athletes, television – and radio hosts, teachers, etc.) will also be included. Parents' feedback on the importance of the project, recipes, and stories of the winning children—how treatment in the department influenced their future professions. "Chef".

This project focuses on the social rehabilitation of children with various serious pathologies and can be used both with children undergoing long-term inpatient treatment and with children undergoing rehabilitation after primary treatment.
