My name is Katya, I'm 18 years old. Until 15 I was an ordinary girl, a completely healthy child, who couldn't even imagine that I would ever end up in a hospital. But fate decreed otherwise.
26 December 2013 I lost consciousness and was admitted to the intensive care unit of the Children's Regional Hospital in Odessa. The doctors simply didn't understand what had happened to me and sent me for a examination. After an examination in the neurology department, the doctors didn't find any problems in this area. It turned out that I had low blood sugar . They recommended that I watch my diet. After consulting numerous endocrinologists in the city, I received treatment that didn't help me. I kept having low blood sugar episodes, and the doctors just shrugged their shoulders. The cause of the hypoglycemia couldn't be determined .
In August 2014 I was again admitted to the intensive care unit. Another hypoglycemic coma. And another unsuccessful examination.
Later, we were recommended to see pediatric endocrinologist
Diagnosed with — MEN-1 hypoglycemic syndrome due to a mass lesion in the pancreas (multiple insulinomas). A very rare diagnosis, a special case.
Surgery was required. In March 2015 they performed surgery on the parathyroid gland. The condition improved, but not for long.
Pancreas operations are not successfully performed in Ukraine. We contacted the hyperinsulinism center in Denmark, and were told that while hypoglycemia attacks could be controlled with food, surgery was not necessary. But two years later, my condition worsened sharply. The attacks became more frequent. I began to lose consciousness more and more often and fall into a pre-coma state. This has a very negative effect on the brain and central nervous system.
We went to Kyiv again. My insulin test results were exceeded the norm by 10 (!) times, and my blood sugar levels ranged from 2,2 to 2,7 mmol/L. I need urgent insulin-based surgery in Denmark. After the surgery, doctors are promising a full recovery.
The cost of the surgery is 25 000 euro, a prohibitive amount for my family. We simply cannot raise this money on our own in such a short time. Therefore, I and ask for help from all caring people. Outside the sun is shining, it's spring, and I with wary as I leave my house alone, afraid of another attack. I may not even see next spring. I really hope for your help. I'm hoping for your help.
