25 January 2009 was the happiest day in the Dubov family — when a wonderful son, Denis, was born. The parents were overjoyed. Denis was a wonderful child, growing and developing according to his age, eating well, and gaining weight. He was already taking his first independent steps, but then a terrible event occurred that turned the family's entire life upside down.
On 16 November 2009 Denis choked while being bathed; water got straight into his lungs, the child stopped breathing and turned blue. His father gave artificial respiration as best he could, his parents called an ambulance at once, but it took 15 minutes for it to arrive. In that time the child's brain was damaged. The little boy spent two weeks in intensive care. After intensive care Denis spent another 2 months in the neurology department.
When their son was discharged home, his parents understood how hard the rehabilitation ahead would be and were ready for it. But they did not expect that the biggest obstacle to recovery would be the lack of money. The child constantly takes rehabilitation courses at different centres (the Yevtushenko centre in Donetsk, the «Future» centre in Odesa, the Kozyavkin centre in Truskavets), is seen by a neurologist at his place of residence and takes courses of treatment at Children's City Hospital № 3. Denis has completed courses of dolphin therapy and transcranial magnetic stimulation, and takes courses of hippotherapy and massage, exercise therapy, and works constantly with a speech therapist.
Everything is yielding results, albeit small, but the child is changing before his very eyes. Denis's mother, of course, wants to believe in the miracle that in the morning her child will wake up and will, as before, reach out to mom's hands and gently kiss her. Mom hopes that this day will come soon. After all, the main thing is — to study, to put your heart and soul into your studies and to believe that your baby — is the healthiest and wonderful.
The boy has already completed one course of his own stem cell transplant, which has yielded results. Deniska has become much more active. Now he can already roll over from his stomach to his back, his eyes are practically squinty, and he reacts to his family and the world around him. He began to lean on his legs and even tries to stomp, but his back muscles are very weak and therefore, the baby cannot sit and grab anything in his handles.
Despite constant procedures and classes, Denis — is a very cheerful child, almost always smiling and loves to be praised and to go for walks with him. And when the baby sees children, he joyfully reaches out to them. The parents believe that one day will come when their son will run and play with other children, go to school, and live a full life.
Denis was prescribed an expensive course of treatment with his own stem cells (autologous transplant). The boy's parents don't have the money for the treatment, and they are asking all caring people to help them through this difficult path to their child's recovery.
