Last February, we learned about the existence of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of City Children's Hospital No. 2. This unit admits newborns weighing from 500 grams.
A friend of the Charity Foundation,® Svetlana Rodionovna Galich, contacted us with a request to purchase a Papoose infant immobilizer for the department for transporting newborns with spinal problems. That's how we met the amazing doctors "Little Bee" – – Head of the Department Viktor Viktorovich Topolenko, neonatologist Maria Leonidovna Bezuglya, and the team of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of City Clinical Hospital No. 2, whose motto – "Work as a way of life."
The immobilizer itself, or more simply the device, is a device that helps minimize pain and further damage. The newborn's spine wasn't very expensive, but the delivery took a lot of labor and six months. A huge thank you to another great friend of the foundation, – Igor Leonidovich Linetsky, who not only delivered an important purchase worth $233,99 from the USA but also paid for it in full.
On September 6th, a new request came in. It was necessary to purchase an equally important item: – Accutrend Plus analyzer (mmol/l) and test strips for separation. Thanks to a special express analyzer, only 1 a drop of blood is needed, which is a priority for very low birth weight babies. Purchase amount – 16231,26 UAH
Throughout the year, we donated funds whenever possible. Personal hygiene products: diapers and wet wipes, and 31.01.2020 We've received a new request, and we can't handle it on our own without the help of caring people.
This time, the neonatal intensive care unit of City Children's Hospital No. 2 is in dire need of a dry plasma thawer "CT- D4" (CytoTherm, USA). The initial price for this equipment is – 219 534,09 UAH, but we always ask everyone for a discount to save money for donors. Our current price is 197 580,68 UAH.
This equipment is vital for such babies. Hemorrhagic syndrome (bleeding) in newborns, especially in extremely premature babies It's deadly for children! Sometimes it develops rapidly, leaving very little time to take all necessary measures to stop it and stabilize the hemostasis system. The most essential method is a transfusion of fresh frozen plasma, and despite the availability of plasma reserves in the intensive care unit, the child must wait a considerable time for the plasma to thaw and warm up for transfusion. – This is about 1,5-2 hours...
It's always scary not to make it in time. But there is a solution. Modern plasma thawers – specialized devices for dry thawing and heating can prepare a plasma bag for transfusion in 15 minutes!!!
