New Charity Foundation project «Little Bee» — fundraising for purchase of a blood cell separator «Fresenius» for the oncohematology department of the regional children's clinical hospital.

Chemotherapy is used in the treatment of oncohematological diseases. Its action is aimed at destroying cancer cells in the bone marrow, but along with the disease-causing cells, healthy cells responsible for hematopoiesis are also destroyed. After a course of chemotherapy, the child remains in a state of aplasia for some time, i.e. In the body's hematopoiesis process is suspended, and new blood elements are not produced. It is very important at this time to provide the patient with a sufficient supply of donor blood.

An effective method for restoring the required platelet count in a child's blood is the infusion of so-called platelet concentrate (platelets isolated from donor blood).
Platelet concentrate can only be obtained by separating donor blood. This process is complex and requires expensive equipment — cell blood separators.

As of at the moment, one «Fresenius» device is already available at the blood transfusion center at the Regional Children's Clinical Hospital, but it cannot handle the required daily workload. The working capacity of one separator is   per — 2-3 donor. This number of donors does not cover the daily need for donated blood.

According to a commercial proposal from the official Fresenius distributor in Ukraine, the cost of the Fresenius device «Com.Tec» is — 84 463 euro.
