3 July is International Plastic Bag Free Day.
Ukrainians are urged 3 to stop using plastic bags for at least one day in July. Flash mob Day_without_Polyethylene proposed by the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine.
No stories, just Numbers.
Meet the – plastic bag!
- Global production volume – 4-5 trillion per year.
- One family uses an average of 500 bags per year.
- Most of them are not recycled and end up in landfills.
- Decomposition period 100-500 years (in the process, soil and groundwater are poisoned).
- ¼ The world's oceans are covered in floating polyethylene.
- This leads to deaths 1 of millions of seabirds, mammals, and countless fish.
- About 40 countries have abandoned the use of or introduced a tax on the use of PE bags (Denmark, Germany, the USA, England, Ireland, Finland).
To protect the environment, you should:
- Stop using single-use plastic bags or reuse existing bags.
- Replace single-use plastic bottles with your own reusable ones.
- Choose drinks in glass or metal bottles.
- Get your own bags and containers for salads, cottage cheese, or meat.
- Sort waste.
- Participate in environmental cleanups — of urban spaces or parks.
- Share information about the dangers of plastic with friends and acquaintances.
