For almost seven years Mykyta fought his illness, but unfortunately neuroblastoma — is the most insidious kind of cancer. Doctors, volunteers and sponsors did everything they could to help Mykyta, but the illness won. Today Mykyta's heart stopped. May his memory be bright!

"As for the transplant, everything is fine. Mykyta's blood group has changed - it was the first, and now it is like his father's - the third. His liver function tests are high; an ultrasound of the liver was done, the problem is a blockage of the hepatic veins. It is a consequence of the chemotherapy and one of the complications of the transplant. Yesterday the drug Defibrotide (20 ampoules) was ordered from Mumbai; the drug is expensive (1 ampoule costs 50 000 rupees - 800 US dollars). This morning the drug was delivered by plane. It is given every six hours. Mykyta tolerated the first administration normally. This is a hard period now and time is needed…
As I write the news my hands are shaking, my heart is pounding. I have no strength left; I worried so much about the MIBG therapy and the transplant, and now there are problems with the liver. For 24 hours a day I cannot stop thinking about where to get the money to save my son. Lord, how many trials have fallen to my little boy…

9 March was a very busy day for Mykyta and his father. In the morning a catheter was fitted for Serhii (Mykyta's father) and cells were harvested. The separation lasted five hours. The yield was good and the doctor was pleased with the amount of material collected. Everything went wonderfully! In the afternoon Mykyta was given his father's cells. The transplant has taken place! Serhii and Mykyta feel all right at the moment. Mykyta runs a temperature from time to time and has nausea - it is a reaction to the cells being given. On his round the doctor said that from 12 March there will be two days of light chemotherapy. This is done to monitor Mykyta's and Serhii's cells. The boy is bearing up well and tries not to lose heart.

On 16 February Mykyta started MIBG therapy. He tolerated it normally; after 3 days the radiation level began to fall and he was moved to the ward where he will stay with his father until the transplant. Thank God, all is well with Nik; that is a joy and gives hope! His spirits are high and his appetite is good. The test results show the counts are falling. Haemoglobin and white cells are not critical, but platelets have fallen (platelet concentrate is being given now). On his round the doctor said that this is good. That is the news for today.

So far Mykyta has been through two courses of high-dose chemotherapy. The treatment is very hard. Against a background of practically zero white cells a fungal infection set in. With enormous difficulty Mykyta managed to overcome it. His life hung by a thread. The fight went on for twenty-three days. But thanks to the doctors' efforts his condition was stabilised. Recovery was very long, his platelets were very low and his white cells would not rise at all. After recovering, Mykyta had a follow-up examination which was a great joy - positive progress, the bone marrow is clean. Today Mykyta feels well and is ready to fight on. He has had a full examination, as MIBG therapy begins on 15 February. Then recovery and a haplo-transplant.

Because severe complications arose during stage 1 of Mykyta's treatment (high-dose chemotherapy) - a fungal infection, on the treatment of which a very considerable sum was spent - 33 000$, we are obliged to add this sum to the amount still being raised.
