Because of an infection in his body, which led to pneumonia and to the failure of a kidney, Zhenia was taken into intensive care. The doctors tried to save the boy but, unfortunately, without success.

Hello; with difficulty and suffering, after two days it was after all possible to harvest stem cells. Not as many as we would have liked, but the doctor says it is enough for a transplant. We hope everything will work out and that the transplant will go normally. We have departed a little from the planned schedule, and we spent an extra 6 days in hospital, and a room is far from cheap, so the bill has grown a little. The doctor will give the exact bill on Tuesday. Tomorrow we begin chemotherapy.
This time Zhenechka's catheter was put into the groin; the doctor says it is better that way. For Zhenia it is unfamiliar and painful, but we have no choice. Today, after the painful procedures, Zhenka quickly came round and even laughed. Today he and I did a lot of drawing and he even wanted to show his drawings to the nurses, although usually he does not like them and will not even let them look at him or smile at him, let alone touch him. THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR HELP AND SUPPORT!

"Hello, today the doctor gave us news that was not very good: the stem cells are not being produced. We have been trying to collect them for so long, Zhenechka has blood taken for tests several times a day, but the result is not encouraging; his body has been badly "beaten" by chemotherapy, 6 blocks is a lot and the body is already exhausted, Zhenka has lost a great deal of weight...... The doctor suggested several options: 1) either to drill into the bone and try to take stem cells straight from the bone, though there is no guarantee there will be many and it is a painful and lengthy process, 2) to try taking small amounts several times, but that takes time and will not be cheap either.... 3) to give an injection to release cells into the body, which costs 1300$; the probability of a release is usually high, and there is no time left to delay: as it is, we should have started the chemotherapy drips 2 days ago after harvesting the cells..... Zhenia is already worn out by procedures and injections; I decided to choose the third option, since I hope it will not be painful for Zhenia and the transplant itself can be started sooner. We are giving the injection and praying to God to help us.... THANK YOU!"

Thank you very much for your help!!! Zhenia and I are already in hospital; I hope we shall soon begin harvesting the cells and the transplant. Zhenia feels all right, only there are injections and drips again, which he had only just got out of the habit of. And Indian food... not like home. Although they try to bring him everything he asks for, home is home, and home cooking is home cooking.

Zhenechka is asleep now; he had a temperature all night and now it has risen very high, but the doctor explained that this is good and prescribed a syrup to bring it down! Why is it good - because it means the stem cells are being released; let us hope the release will be as high as the temperature, so we are no longer worried as we were in the night. Thank you all, we hope everything will be well. ABOUT 4000$ MORE STILL HAS TO BE RAISED to pay for the transplant in full. Tomorrow we are admitted to hospital, and 2 days later the transplant. Zhenka and I believe in kind people, and that God will bless us and help us in this hard trial. Thank you all.

After the operation to remove the tumour Zhenia recovered for three weeks, two of which we spent in hospital under the doctors' care. His recovery went very well and we were discharged after only two weeks . The worst forecasts, thank God, were not borne out after the operation: since one kidney had been removed and the second worked only at half capacity, the doctors expected that blood dialysis would be needed, that is, cleaning of the blood, because one kidney simply would not cope. But his body began to work and recover quite well on its own. We spent a week in a flat and are now preparing for the bone marrow transplant. On 19.09 Zhenia was given chemotherapy to stimulate the release of stem cells, and from 23.09 we go to the hospital every day for a Neupogen injection. The transplant is set for 30.09. Now 6000$ more has to be raised, as payment must be made before the transplant.
