Nadezhda Tabakar contacted us with a request for help for her son, Igor. She lives with her son and mother in a private home in the small village of Komyshovka in the Odessa region. Nadezhda is a third-degree disabled person with impaired vision. Her father abandoned the family when the boy was one and a half years old, and her mother was forced to raise her son alone.
When Igor was five years old, he suffered a severe case of tonsillitis, which affected his heart. In as a result, the boy was referred to a cardiologist for active rheumatism. In August 2010 at a regular appointment, the doctor noticed an abnormality in the development of his chest.
Indeed, the boy grew taller, and it became noticeable that his chest was deforming. In March 2011 they consulted an orthopedist, where the boy was diagnosed with — pectus excavatum and second-degree scoliosis. In the question of surgery arose. This was a shock for the family. They couldn't believe that there was no other way out. Mom consulted various specialists, and they all said surgery was unavoidable. As a result of the deformity, the boy's back hurts terribly, and he can't stay in one position for long. He can't stay in one position for long.
Igor's heart is already misaligned, and one lung is lagging behind in its development. It's scary to think what will happen next. Igor suffers greatly from his illness, both physically and mentally. He worries that he's not like other children. But he tries to be courageous, regularly doing the strength exercises prescribed by his doctor. He even has calluses on his hands from the dumbbell.
To restore the correct shape of the chest, two surgeries are needed. The cost of these surgeries is 30 000 UAH, depending on Igor's condition at the time of surgery. Nadezhda works as a cleaner, and her father's child support payments amount to 1887,28 UAH for 6 months. Her grandmother also helps with her pension, but the cost of the surgeries is still prohibitive for the family. We hope that the surgeries will straighten the boy's chest, and he will get rid of all the pain that torments him so much.
