Today Natasha's heart stopped. The girl fought her illness for a very long time and tried to be brave and not to lose heart. Unfortunately, that was not enough...

We cannot please you with the news. Natasha is having a very hard time now, her test results are very low. 
Natasha and her mother come to the hospital only for platelet infusions, and go straight home afterwards.

Natasha and her mother have come back from Kyiv with a discharge note from OKHMATDYT. The hoped-for allogeneic transplant did not take place, as Natasha's condition is not satisfactory for it. She has been discharged to our oncohaematology department as an inpatient, where intensive chemotherapy will be given.

Natasha is continuing her treatment at home. Any day now the girl and her mother are expecting an invitation to Kyiv, where another attempt will be made to collect stem cells for an autotransplant. We hope that this time it will succeed!
Natasha, and her mother too, are very tired of the endless journeys, drips and tests, but these are only moments of weakness in the hourly fight with such an insidious illness. 
There are some difficulties at the moment with renting a place in Kyiv for Natasha and her mother. A flat has to be rented for the period of the treatment, and that means considerable extra expense. Unfortunately, there are no places in the department for now and Natasha will have to wait her turn. The girl will have to have the necessary procedures and drips as an outpatient. That makes things much harder, since her immunity is weak, and with daily trips to the department while there is snow and frost outside it will be yet another test of endurance!

Unfortunately, understanding the situation with the fundraising for a transplant (from an unrelated donor) for Natasha, namely that impossible sum - 170 000 thousand dollars, the doctors consider an autotransplant in Kyiv the only possible prospect. To carry it out, her own stem cells, produced by the bone marrow, have to be collected.
During her stay at the clinic in Kyiv the cells were not collected after all, because her blood counts were too low. Natasha was given special drugs by drip to raise them, but so far without result.
The stem cell collection failed and Natasha and her mother were allowed home for 10 days - to rest before the next attempt. When Natasha goes back to Kyiv, it will all start again: tests, the catheter again, punctures, another block of chemotherapy. After all that they will begin stimulation in order to collect the stem cells. At the moment Natasha feels well, she is holding on and believes that she will succeed!!!

On 24 December Natasha and her mother are leaving for Kyiv to continue treatment at the «Okhmatdyt» clinic. There Natasha will have a course of chemotherapy, and then an operation to implant her own stem cells.

Today's blood test result is not encouraging - haemoglobin 48, white cells 0,1, platelets 4. Blood donors are badly needed (blood group - second negative). Last night Natasha had stomach pain, it was very severe and painkillers were given all night. In the morning an ultrasound scan was done and stones were found in the gall bladder. The surgeon said they have to be removed. But at the moment an operation is contraindicated for Natasha because of her low counts. Until the counts rise, the pain will be relieved with painkillers.

The bill has arrived from the clinic in Belarus. A bone marrow transplant from an unrelated donor will cost 170 thousand dollars.

Natasha has started a very hard block of chemotherapy. She has neither appetite nor spirits. We are now looking for a clinic that will undertake the bone marrow transplant.
