Olena, the mother of Yelyzaveta Nychyporuk, came to us with a request for help.
Liza was born on 26 September 2011. She is still quite a baby, but her serious, grown-up look gives it away — she has had to live through a great deal of pain, fear and suffering!
This is what Olena tells us:
Lizochka is our second beloved and very long-awaited child. Our family was the happiest of all — God had given us a daughter. Everything was going perfectly, we were in seventh heaven: father, mother, son and daughter. Everything was going perfectly until in December 2011 I found a hardening on the left side of my daughter's tummy. I went to the hospital in Illichivsk, where they did an ultrasound scan and we heard the terrible diagnosis — Wilms tumour. We were referred to Odesa for further examination. Sadly, the diagnosis was confirmed.
Then came a trip to the National Cancer Institute (Kyiv). There, on 29 December, Liza was given her first course of chemotherapy, and we went home. On the third day after that our daughter became unwell, her temperature rose — 39,5o C, severe chills and convulsions began. We called an ambulance and ended up in intensive care. As Liza was then only 3 months old, we were sent to Odesa. In Odesa, with a delay of 3 days, our daughter began her course of chemotherapy. After every procedure Liza had complications: her haemoglobin fell, her temperature rose, an allergy appeared, she was listless and weak, and her bowel stopped working properly.
On 30 January 2012 we went straight from the hospital to Kyiv, where we had all the necessary examinations. With all my soul I hope that my child will get well! But the treatment needs a very large sum of money! I believe that people who care will be found and will help our family".
Sincerely, Olena, Liza's mother.
20 June
Lizochka was taken into intensive care. As we wrote earlier, she tolerates all the chemotherapy procedures very badly. She cries constantly and is very tired: from the heat, from the treatment and perhaps also because she is teething.
7 February
Lizochka had an operation in Kyiv: the tumour, the kidney, the adrenal glands and the lymph nodes were removed. The child came round from the anaesthesia very badly. She cried, and for two days she was given painkillers by injection. Thank God, it is all behind her. According to the histology Liza is in the high-risk group, and 12 courses of chemotherapy have been prescribed for her. Mother and child have come back to Odesa; Liza is being treated in the oncohaematology department of the regional children's clinical hospital, at: Ak. Vorobiova Street, 3
13 March
With a delay caused by falling white cells, «Granocyte» was prescribed. Liza started the second block of chemotherapy, for three days. After the chemotherapy her platelets fell – 14, and her liver function tests rose.
23 March
The platelets have fallen to 9. A donor is needed urgently!
4 April
Liza began the 3rd block of chemotherapy, for 3 days. Her temperature rose to 39 degrees. Liza is growing up and finds it harder and harder to sit still; she wants company. But there is good news too: Lizonka is teething, and she already has five teeth.
17 April
Lizonka needs donor blood again: A(II) Rh -. We ask those with this blood group to come and give blood for Liza Nychyporuk at: Ak. Vorobiova Street, 3 on the 3rd floor of the 9-storey building, at the blood transfusion point.
19 April
Liza tolerates each block of chemotherapy very badly: her test results worsen, her temperature rises, the child frets badly and her mother weeps because she cannot help her beloved daughter. All of it can be changed; donors are simply needed so that the necessary amount of blood can be given in time. Liza still has 9 blocks to go through, and after each block donor blood may be needed; Liza has a very rare blood group - A(II) Rh -.
Please respond, those of you with the same blood group. Blood should be given at: Ak. Vorobiova Street, 3, 3rd floor (of the 9-storey building), the blood transfusion point, for Liza Nychyporuk.
