Ilya Kozachenko's mother contacted the fund «Little Bee» . Here's their story:
Our son's name is Ilyusha, he's one year old and three months old, a real baby, he hasn't really lived and hasn't seen anything yet . What's even more terrifying is that at six months of age, Ilya was diagnosed with intussusception and hospitalized in the surgical department. Fortunately, then everything went smoothly: a non-surgical dilation of the intestinal loops was performed by inflating it with air. It seemed the worst was over.
However, at nine months, Ilya was readmitted to the surgical department with intussusception. A blood test showed a lack of platelets. That's how we first learned about our son's terrible condition. But and in this time, surgeons managed to perform a non-surgical dilation of the intestinal loops.
From that time we began treating the blood purposefully: a course of the hormone «prednisolone», then the immunoglobulin «bioven-mono» — with no visible effect. Iliusha's platelet count never rose above 11 g/l. A myelogram was done and sent to the laboratories of Okhmatdyt. There the diagnosis was made: idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura, acute course.
At eleven months Iliusha was admitted to the surgical department for the third time with intestinal intussusception. And this time inflation with air proved ineffective: the little boy developed intestinal bleeding and an operation was required.
A blood test showed zero platelets. The donor department provided us with donors for the duration of the operation so that platelet mass could be transfused and blood loss avoided. For four days in the intensive care unit replacement therapy with platelet concentrate and the hormone «dexalitazone» was given.
In time the stitches healed and the little boy began to feel better, but the platelet counts stayed where they were, 3-7-10 g/l. Some time later, having consulted the doctor once again, having had a blood test and a hepatitis test and an ultrasound scan, we learnt that Iliusha's blood was infected with hepatitis B and C. That is, it turned out that the donor blood was saturated with the antibodies of hepatitis B and C. A child already sick and weakened was infected with hepatitis because of poor-quality donor blood.
Our family's grief is beyond description. We do not know where else to turn, to which gods to pray, to save our beloved son. We beg you to help Iliusha be treated for all his illnesses, for he so wants to live and does not understand at all what terrible trials fate has brought down on him so early in childhood.
