The pregnancy of Irina, Nikita's mother, proceeded without complications, and the ultrasound showed that the baby was 100% healthy. And When the time came for the baby to be born, difficulties arose. The woman was unable to give birth herself and had to undergo surgery, including a Caesarean section. At birth, the baby swallowed amniotic fluid. Doctors did everything possible and saved the child.
But the boy had a congenital defect: an extra femur on the left, a shortened, underdeveloped left lower limb. The mother was offered the option of giving up the sick child, but the woman was unable to keep her newborn. The junior medical staff at the maternity hospital and her roommates in the room were very supportive of Irina, saying: «You need strength and patience», while the doctors were arguing among themselves about who was to blame for this.
Everyone had a question: «Do we need an ultrasound after this?»
From the maternity hospital, the mother and baby were transferred to the Regional Children's Clinical Hospital (Odesa, Vorobyova Street, 3), where they underwent a full examination and met with an orthopedist. He said he couldn't help in any way and advised them to contact specialists from other clinics.
During the first month of breastfeeding, the baby gained only 100 grams. They had to switch the boy to formula feeding, even though it was expensive for the family, but the parents tried to help Nikita get stronger and grow faster.
In the parents with their two-month-old child came for a examination at the Kyiv Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedics. After the examination, the doctors promised to help little Nikita. In January-February 2013 Nikita underwent an examination in Kyiv and he was scheduled for surgery.
The child will have to undergo an expensive and very difficult operation. To perform it, the boy must weigh at least less than 12 kg. During this period, he is teething, and he is gaining almost no weight. Nikita is already a year old and for three months he has been nervous and unwilling to sit in one place. He wants to walk on his own, but not yet can.
Nikita's parents are asking all caring people to help them raise the necessary funds for the operation and give their child a chance to live a full life.
