Since September 2017 Yan Chuvakov has been battling a diagnosis of – osteosarcoma of the right humerus.

From a letter from the boy's parents: "In May, Yanchik turned 7 years old. A month later, he fractured a bone just below his shoulder. He had to wear a cast for eight weeks, but no one could have guessed that the fracture was caused by 2 — bone destruction by cancer cells! After the cast was removed, we went to the orthopedic department, and after a series of examinations, our son was diagnosed with this condition. As it turned out, wearing a cast for eight weeks only worsened the bone condition. The fracture had grown enormously in size, — from 0,5 cm at the time of the fracture to 6 cm after the cast was removed! We were referred to the Cancer Institute in Kyiv. There, the diagnosis was finally confirmed, and a chemotherapy protocol was immediately prescribed.

Already 5 October 2018 Yan began the first round of chemotherapy in the hematology department of Odessa. His body was very weak after six days of medication. A series of complications followed, which we managed, albeit with difficulty.

Without stopping or losing faith, Yanchik and I headed to Kyiv for the second and third rounds of chemotherapy. These two blocks really scared me, because the drug is very strong, and they prescribed a high dose!

So, 6 November 2018 high-dose chemotherapy began. We are currently preparing for 4 block, which will take place in the hematology department of the Odessa Regional Children's Clinical Hospital (Akademika Vorobyova St., 3). After this block, we need to have a CT scan of the lungs and arm, and an MRI of the arm. We need to determine whether the bone destruction has stopped and whether there are any metastases.

Unfortunately, our treatment doesn't stop there.… Yanchik still has two more pre-operative chemotherapy rounds and surgery to remove the damaged bone. He also has chemotherapy after surgery. According to the protocol, starting from 8 blocks.
