On 22.02.2018 five oxygenators were paid for the cardiac surgery department of the Odesa Regional Children’s Clinical Hospital from the funds raised during the MARATHON OF KINDNESS "10_meetings _ 10_people _ 10_talks _ 10_ideas".

The cardiovascular surgery department urgently needs to buy important consumables: Terumo Capiox RX 05 neonatal oxygenators.

An oxygenator — is a single-use set for most open-heart operations, used in the heart-lung machine, thanks to which doctors can temporarily replace the function of the heart and lungs while the cardiac surgeon repairs the defect on an open, stopped heart.

Without these consumables, children of the Odesa region born with critical congenital defects of the heart and great vessels, who need urgent surgery, will have no chance of life.

For the department to work normally in July and August at least 10 such sets are needed. One set costs UAH 13 000.

The information about the need, the cost and the supplier of the oxygenators was provided by Volodymyr Petrovych Buzovskyi, head of the cardiovascular surgery department of the regional children’s clinical hospital.
